OK, so it's not quite huge just yet. The pre-hugified ones were really expensive, so we bought this one and will nurture it to hugeness ourselves. It is supposed to grow to between 6 and 10 feet tall, with up to a 13 foot wingspan. Currently it is about a foot and a half tall, with about a two and a half foot wingspan. The bed is about seven feet in diameter.

Javi the Agave
I have always wanted to put a huge agave plant in the round flowerbed in the front yard, and I finally got around to doing it last weekend. Sunday morning I cleaned out the plants that were there before, and in the afternoon we went to the Barton Springs Nursery in search of one (though I have always been calling them aloe; I'm not sure how different they are). Gennie found them first and had a Yankee moment telling me about them where they were, calling it (uh-gayv) instead of the Spanish pronunciation (uh-gah-vay). But then she stole one of her students' names and named it Javi the Agave (short for Javier the Agave Plant). She's thinking hard about names for the new bougainvilleas... she doesn't want them to be too jealous that they were bought first, but do not yet have names.
